Aging Program
Our Aging Program is funded through a Federal grant administered through the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC). Congress passed the Older Americans Act (OAA) in 1965 in response to concern by policymakers about a lack of community social services for older persons. The law also established the Administration on Aging (AoA) to administer the newly created grant programs to address the unique needs of older Americans. The Programs below are state and federal-funded. Acceptance in the program requires pre-screening; therefore, there may be a wait-list for services.

What We Do
Information & Assistance Specialists are the first point-of-contact for potential clients. The specialist refers callers to services both within and outside of Clayton County while responding to direct requests from individuals. Our specialists also assess the individual’s long and short-term needs, identifying resources to meet those needs, providing a referral to identified resources, and, when appropriate, following up to ensure that the individual’s needs have been met.
Case Managers are the faces of the Aging Program within the community for our seniors. It is the case managers that, through a set of state and Aging Division guidelines, determines who qualifies for our free services. They average about 80 clients each.
Transportation Services are contracted out to MLB Transportation. Our transportation services include demand/response services, dialysis appointments, and transportation of clients to our Congregate Program (Clayton Senior Adult Program).
Home Delivered Meals (Meals on Wheels) currently partners with Program Open Hands who brings chilled meals for both MOW clients and frozen lunches for Clayton Senior Adult Program participants at the Frank Bailey Senior Center. In 2014, Meals on Wheels provided over 3500 each month, including emergency meals and Care Transition meals.
In-Home Care Services are provided through a contracted vendor. In-home care consists of Personal Care and Homemaker services.
Homemakers provide services to seniors who cannot care for their housekeeping needs.
Personal/Respite Care is a service available to caregivers of clients who have been physician-diagnosed with Alzheimer’s/Dementia or clients who cannot tend to their own personal needs.
